Jesus the used-car salesman
A few weeks ago I commented on a meme about what Jesus Christ looked like. And then discussed it in more detail here: Notes from underground: Pofrika: Meme findings – what did Jesus look like?.
Recently I’ve seen this image of Jesus as a used car salesman on quite a number of blogs, including several where the blog author appears to be Christian. The “Jesus” in the image seems to be saying something like “Sold — to the gentleman in dark glasses, carrying a violin case, one case of snake oil”.
It makes me wonder why the image of Jesus as a huckster seems to be so popular. Is it satirical? And if so, what is intended to satirise? Sentimenal pictures of the Sacred Heart? The salesmanship of TV evangelists?

Surely the same logic applies as with the previous images of Jesus: the people concerned are projecting their own image onto Jesus?
Meanie,
Perhaps they are projecting their own image, but what makes me curious is why that image would be one of a huckster?
Understandable for anti-religious types who think all religion is a scam, but I’ve seen it on blogs of people who are ostensibly Christian too.
I think it is from the movie dogma.
