Cricket commentators need some lessons

The SABC radio cricket commentators really are the pits.
My wife is a great cricket fan. Yesterday we went to church in Mamelodi, and when the service finished about 11:00 my wife switched on the car radio to hear what was happening in the South Africa-India test match was going. We gave an old lady a [...]

The Archbishop and the Beast

A prickly visitor

Val woke up and found a message from Simon: “If you see Samwise running around with a potato it is because I threw it for him. I couldn’t find a ball and he had caught a hedgehog and was running around with it in his mouth and I didn’t want to hurt either him or [...]

Peace symbol - 50 years on

Jerry Horton’s now-famous peace symbol is 50 years old. Its first public appearance was at the Aldermaston March in 1958, organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament to protest against nuclear weapons.Later it was widened to a general peace symbol, and not simply against nuclear weapons, and has been used by people protesting against [...]

Mikhail Gorbachev as a Christian

Several newspapers have reported that Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the USSR, is a Christian. What is surprising, however, is not so much the reports themselves as the source: the reports have come from Italy. It will be interesting to see if there are any follow-ups in the media, saying something about how Gorbachev practises [...]
