OCMC mission team arrives from the USA

14 October 2010

A short-term mission team from the Orthodox Christian Mission Center in St Augustine, Florida, USA arrived in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg and Pretoria to do some teaching ministry in parishes in the Archdiocese.

OCMC Mission Team with some local clergy - Reader John Burnett, Andrew Lekos (OCMC), Fr Frumentius Taubata, Fr Johannes Rakumako, Fr Michael Miklos (OCMC), Fr Athanasius Akunda, Ed Bearce (OCMC), John Sedor (OCMC)

The mission team gathered at the Metropolis to meet clergy of some of the parishes where they will be serving, and will be going to Tembisa, Soshanguve, Atteridgeville and Eldorado Park, and will also be running a teaching day for leaders from all parishes at Yeoville on Saturday 23 October before attending Vespers at St Thomas’s, Sunninghill, who will be celebrating their patronal feast.

Andrew Lekos of the OCMC team shows Archbishop Seraphim a picture of his family while John Sedor looks on.

Their longest teaching assignment will be three days to be spent in Atteridgeville, where there are several people preparing for baptism, and some leaders needing to be trained.

And, apropos of nothing really, a piece of Greek statuary in the Metropolis garden, wearing a lekarapa, a relic of the football fever of the World Cup three months ago, and holding a garden sprinkler. I just thought it was a nice picture.
