Christmas eve

25 December 2007

Last night we went to Grand Compline and Matins at St Nicholas in Brixton. My son, who works at a book shop, closed at 4:00pm, and was able to come, though somewhat harassed by customers who complained that the shop had closed so early, and said they were going to complain to the centre management because the shop had closed so early.

That’s one of the things I dislike about the commercialisation of Christmas — they all have to have “extended shopping hours” so that they can squeeze out the last extra little bit of profit.

But at least after the mad rush Compline was peaceful.
