The martyrs of Epinga

12 April 2007

It’s synchroblog time again — that’s when a group of Christian bloggers write on roughly the same topic on the same day.

This time the theme is “Persecution and the suffering church”, and if you are interested, you can find my contribution here: Notes from underground: The martyrs of Epinga.

It tells the story of a group of Anglicans in Namibia who were shot at by South African security forces as they were going home from church. It happened 35 years ago, in 1972, but the story was covered up at the time by the authorities of both church and state (and also, to an extent, by the media), so I thought the people concerned deserved to have their story told.
